The Weed has garnered numerous awards for its brews and was recently named by Thrillist as one of the 16 best breweries in the south. It was bought in 2017, becoming part of Anheuser-Busch’s The High End, a unit dedicated to craft and import brands. Despite local angst about the buyout at the time, by most accounts, the brewery has maintained its independent spirit and innovative philosophy.
This review is focused not on the beer, but my supper in the gastropub the other night. The blue cheese coleslaw was packed with pungent, rich flavor and had a palate-pleasing wallop of cabbagy crunch. I could have made an entire meal of that stuff. The veggie burger featured the Beyond Meat patty, which, in my opinion, is one of the best vegetarian products out there, and simply crushes every black bean burger I’ve ever tried. The topping choices included pimento cheese, which was a beautiful, beautiful thing. Excellent fries rounded out my dinner, and I exited the building a very happy man.
