When I first moved to Asheville I lived in an apartment right across the street from Noble Cider’s taproom on New Leicester Highway. I loved going there so much that I would routinely risk my life at night by running back and forth across the busy highway with no traffic light or crosswalk to get a flight of Noble’s delicious cider. I even had their chai cider at my wedding.

So when I found out about Noble’s plans to open a restaurant downtown complete with cider cocktails and Michelin-inspired dining experience, I was ecstatic. I attended the media opening with some of the AVLFN crew Wednesday night and let me tell you, The Greenhouse did not disappoint.

Stepping into the Rankin Avenue restaurant is like entering a tropical garden oasis. I truly cannot picture a more perfect and magical setting. I imagine I’ll spend several evenings there this summer sipping cocktails with friends or enjoying a date night with my husband.

My favorite drink of the night was the ‘Choose Your Words Carefully,’ a refreshingly bright cocktail comprised of H&H gin, Noble’s Blue Bard (blueberry cider with honey and rosemary), lavender syrup, and dry Cava lemon. I also tried the Grapefruit & Citra Hard Apple Spritzer and the Strawberry shrub soda. Both were delicious. My friend Mali ordered the Pineapple Shoshito shrub soda, which we promptly mixed with my Strawberry soda and the combination was delightful!

We were treated to tastes of the menu, and while my dining companions RAVED about the Smoke-Roasted Brisket, I fell in love with the Vegetarian Gnocchi, served with fried Brussel Sprouts and a Chinese BBQ glaze. While chatting with Noble’s owner Joanna, she remarked, “when thinking about the future of this restaurant, I tried this gnocchi. Just one bite and I knew we were going to be all right.” I’d say that’s a pretty accurate estimation.

As for the dessert, I could go for the drinks and dessert alone. Plop me at a table with a flight of cider and at least 10 orders of the Chocolate Treacle Tart and the Rhubarb & Strawberry Pavlova and I’d be set for days.

The Greenhouse’s Grand Opening is Friday, June 21. So throw on your garden party best and prepare to enjoy absolutely delicious food and drink in this new, gorgeous AVL spot.

(Reservations are recommended, though walk-ins are accepted on the bar side of the restaurant.)
